Sodium tripolyphosphate is a chemical also known as STPP, sodium tripolyphosphate or TPF. Sodium tripolyphosphate occurs as white crystals or grains. It is soluble in water but not in organic solvents. Sodium tripolyphosphate is used in different industries: agriculture, construction, paper manufacturing. This compound is a commonly used ingredient in the manufacture of soaps and detergents for various reasons. It reduces water hardness by attracting calcium and magnesium ions. It also has a flocculant component, i.e. it keeps dirt in suspension, making it easier to clean.
